11 Ghanains, 1 Nigerian Illegal Miners Busted
Land patrols conducted by the Eastern, Ashanti and Central Forward Operating Bases of Operation Vanguard on the 6th and 18th August have led to the arrest of 11 Ghanaians and 1 Nigerien suspected illegal miners.
The patrols were conducted in Kwabeng, Akyem Ntronang, Pankese and Apradan in the Atiwa District, Birim north and Kwahu municipalities of the Eastern region; Adeito and Yapesa in the Bosome Freho District of the Ashanti region; and Nyame Bekyere and Sunib Egya in the Gomoa and Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam Districts of the Central region.
Three (3) Ghanaians were arrested in the Bosome Freho District and five (5) Ghanaians were arrested in the Gomoa District while three (3) Ghanaian and one (1) Nigerian were arrested in the Atiwa District.
All persons arrested were handed over to Kwabeng, Twifo-Praso and Atiwa Police stations respectively.
Items immobilised included fifteen (15) Changfan machines, seven (7) Changfan platforms and two (2) Water pumping machines. Items seized included one (1) Excavator, one (1) Opel Astra taxi, one (1) Sanyo motorcycle, five (5) Water pumping machines, one (1) Irrigation pump and ten (10) Changfan belts.
