Mbappe rejects new PSG contract offer

France star footballer, Kylian Mbappe has reportedly rejected the latest contract offered to him by French club Paris Saint-Germain, as both parties are yet to shift grounds on a controversial clause.

Mbappe has a year remaining on his deal at Parc des Princes, and could leave at the end of next season as a free agent.

PSG have insisted that their most prized asset will not be allowed to leave in 2021, and have offered him a new deal wary he could leave on a free next summer.

However, according to a report by Marca, the 22-year-old Mbappe and PSG officials are far apart in their contractual negotiations.

Mbappe reportedly prefers to sign a new contract with the guarantee of being able to make the switch elsewhere if another club makes a suitable offer.

However, PSG don’t want such a clause in the new contracts as it would go against rules outlined by the French Professional Football League.

According to legendary footballer, if Mbappe wants to win the biggest prizes, he has to go to a different league.

“If you want the biggest accolades, you will have to move from PSG at some point,” he told The Athletic.

“Whatever you will do in Paris will be good, but somebody will always say ‘Well, you did great for PSG, but it was only in France and the best leagues are in England and Spain, so you didn’t compete with the best players in the best league’.

“You will have to decide. If you want to win the Ballon d’Or, which is what you should be looking at to echo Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, you will have to compete with the best.

“You can’t say you compete with the best all the time when you are at PSG. The French league is not easy, don’t get me wrong, but I think the toughest league is in England.

“So, if you want to be one of the best, then do what you do in Paris but with Chelsea or Manchester United or Arsenal or Manchester City or Liverpool. Or go to Spain to Madrid or Barcelona. Or maybe Italy.

“Then we can speak about a more global impact.”
