Ghanaian Singer Kuami Eugene has revealed that he never knew that Sarkodie’s ‘Happy song’ he featured on was an endorsement for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Recall there were controversies surrounding ‘Happy Day’ song he released in 2020 prior to the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections.

Many presumed the song was a campaign song or an endorsement for the ruling NPP and its flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo.

In the song, the rapper talked about the Free SHS policy and the fact that the NPP government has solved the “Dumsor” in the country, urging the current President, Nana Addo to continue his good works.

This line suggested that Sarkodie was telling Ghanaians to vote for Nana Akufo-Addo due to the policies he was able to implement during his first term and tagged the song as a campaign song for the NPP.

Reacting to claims that the song is a campaign song for the NPP in an interview with Delay, Kuami Eugene said he was not aware the song was a campaign song for the NPP and that Sarkodie sent him only the first verse of the song which did not contain the endorsement of Nana Akufo-Addo.

“I had no idea that song was a campaign song. He sent me the song with the first rap and I was supposed to create a hook that would match the first verse.

The idea of his verse was giving thanks to God which was why I also wrote a hook relating to that.

It was on set while I was shooting the music video with him and I heard the second verse and was surprised.

It wasn’t my conversation to have with him then, that should be my label and his label’s conversation.

If Sarkodie had sent me the second verse I would have called him to ask if that was t direction he should let me know so I compose lyrics relating to that.”
