Highlife artiste and songwriter Akwaboah has disclosed that Shatta Wale disrespected him and every highlife artiste in Ghana when he said the country doesn’t have a unique genre.
Speaking in an interview with Abeiku Santana on Okay FM, Akwaboah disclosed that everyone knows that highlife is the genre that represents Ghana worldwide.
“I felt very disrespected. How can you say that there is no genre spearheading the Ghanaian music industry? Shatta Wale disrespected me and every highlife artiste in Ghana…Highlife is the genre representing Ghana worldwide, Everyone knows that…” Akwaboah disclosed.
Akwaboah explained that the reason highlife artists are not getting dominance in the international space is that the media and industry players do not promote them(Highlife artists).
It could be recalled that Shatta Wale on June 2, 2021, made remarks about the music industry during his state of the industry address.
In one of the issues Shatta Wale raised, he proposed that music stakeholders come together to settle on a unique genre that can sell Ghana globally.
