The First Lady of the Republic of Ghana, Rebecca Akufo-Addo yesterday declined the offer for her to be paid monthly allowances and even promised to refund all the monies paid to her as allowances from January 2017 to date which amounted to GH¢ 899,097.84.
Rebecca Akufo-Addo rejected the monthly salary proposed by parliament due to the public backlash on the government’s decision to pay the wives of the president and his vice president.
However, the Member of Parliament for the North Tongu constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has revealed why the First Lady rejected salaries and allowances to be paid to her.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa revealed that Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo’s rejection is just a bait for her to look good in the eyes of the public.
Although the NDC MP failed to give any evidence for his statement, he stated emphatically that payment of salaries have already been effected.
“I do not have any evidence to fall for the bait. What I also know is that payment had already been effected which actually will amount to double payment because they have already received allowances” He disclosed.
